Common mistakes by upcoming artists early in their career Part.1

Music industry has became easy and more complex to break out as new act. This past two years we one have seen a handful of guys who made a breakthrough to the mainstream eg Ishan, Anita Jaxson , Holy Ten, Poptain to mention but a few. So which erros should young artists avoid? I have listed five of what we believe are vastly relevant.

5. Lacking etiquette

Someone you have never interacted with will just come to your DM and bombard you with links and videos without even greeting you and introducing themselves and making an impression as they say people buy into the person before the music.

4.Believing everything your friends and family say

3.Failure to handle rejection

Well, your people will hype you and say this a hit. Few of them are willing to give it to you straight. You need to move past and them as your first fans. Take their hype with a grain of salt.

Lemme say something you dude people are going to say your music sucks and your bars are whack. How you handle this will be more important than most these things. Just because someone said your is not good for them doesn’t mean everyone will hate hit.

2. Build and create a network

Like another industry, the showbiz sector has gatekeepers who are not going to let you dance your way to prominence with ease. You need to learn to play nice (kupusa) with important people and doors will be open just like that. Attend industry events and activities meet and greet introduce yourself in an unforgettable way, always ask for the email address. Bvuma kupusa, Tinashe Mutarise always say Be Nice for no reason, Because once you start a domino effect you will how easy it will be. On the other side the internet is busy building it’s gatekeepers who are raising through they have people they can’t reach but you can reach them in that way you build together and grow together. Getting the cosign from the OGs and new school should your focus.

1. Being One Dimensional

Most artists know one thing only that is to make music. So your career will require you to learn how to make cover art, manage your social media and even edit your music videos reference point is Holy Ten most of his early videos before he blew up were made by edited by him. Ndaremerwa was a low-budget work that catapulted him to the next phase of his career now he has won awards. Also do something that might bring attention back to your music like Vimbai Zimuto (I didn’t say take off your clothes). Kikky badass first built a reputation before releasing her first single, she had a following but went on to be a vexion for couple of artist. Oliver Mutukudzi did a couple of movies in the 90s all these things took the action back to music. Most recent is Pro beats who started off as a dancer and beatboxer before releasing an music now he is doing skits. Don’t be one dimensional!
